Winter Solstice

Look down to the frozen earth below your feet and feel your roots sink deep into the belly of mother nature. Honour your mother, as she hibernates and gestates and prepares to burst forth with her cornucopia of colour and texture.

Notice the fragrance of the pines, the prickly leaves of the holly bush, the romance of the mistletoe and remember the medicine we get from the trees, the plants and the flowers, What secrets do they hold? What secrets do they wish to share with you today?

Honour the animals in our forests, the snowy owl, the arctic fox, the white tailed deer and remember the medicine we get from the animal kingdom, our spirit guides in animal guise, our four legged brothers and sisters.

Feel the snow, feel the ice, think of the igloo homes of our Inuit neighbours and ask yourself how they find warmth from the cold.

Delight in the beauty of sparkling snow flakes dancing in the sunlight, the branches of the evergreen glazed in winter frosting.

And honour the bitterness that bites, the storms that blind and the cold that burns

The sleet, the frozen rain, the fierce wind, the snow falls that never end.

Pay homage to the frailty and fragility around us, to our vulnerability as we echo and witness the mood swings of mother nature – her warm embrace and her harsh reprimands

And say thank you, thank you, thank you for holding me so so sweetly this holiday season
