MEDITATION
"We are all on the path - and the road leads upward ever, with frequent resting places". The Kybalion
The answers lie within...so meditation will help you tap into your inner wisdom to show you the way....
What is Meditation?
An active process that lowers your brain wave frequencies
Meditation is a state in which you allow yourself to relax and connect to your inner self. This is done by lowering your brain wave frequencies and bringing your awareness to the space between your eyebrows. By inducing a rapid relaxation response and stimulating the 2 glands responsible for deeper spiritual connection, you allow yourself to open up to greater levels of awareness and wisdom.
Why Meditate?
- To Increase productivity and decrease stress as your brain waves slow down.
- To Increase your sense of well being as you lower your stress response and allow your body to rejuvenate.
- To bring more joy into your life as you breathe in not only oxygen but potent prana.
- To awaken higher consciousness to discover who you are and why you are here.
- To connect to your inner wisdom and discover that all answers lie within.
- To feel more secure as you realize that you have everything you need and are deeply loved.
- To improve your health: as your body relaxes, you engage your innate healing and restaurative powers
- to breathe consciously: connecting to your breath allows you to align your physiscal, mental, emotional and spiritual layers.
- To slow down the aging process: as you relax your body releases and enhances the production of HGH (human growth hormone) , DHEA and melatonin
- Control your mind and emotions: Reprogramming your thoughts and feelings with postive thoughts
- Increases self-awareness
You are deeply loved, nurtured and protected no matter what you have done or not done, how you have treated others or been treated, whether or not you believe in God, what religion you do or do not belong to...- Transformation is available to everyone. - Nicky
"there is not one who is fatherless, nor motherless in the Universe, within the father - mother mind, mortal children are at home" the Kybalion
The 4 brain wave frequencies?
Your brain waves vibrate at a different speed depending on what you are doing and how you are feeling
When you are active, busy and very focused - Beta frequency: 14 to 40 cycles per second
When you are feeling relaxed , calm and drowsy - Alpha frequency: 7 to 13 cycles per second
When you are asleep and dreaming- Theta frequency: 4 to 6 cycles per second
When you are in a deep sleep - Delta frequency: up to 3 cycles per second
Studies show that too much time spent in Beta will lead to burn out and that optimal learning occurs in Alpha.
Notice how well you remember facts when you calmly read a book before bed.
Let your experience be your best teacher...
How does meditation work:
With meditation, you consciously drop your brain wave frequencies through a natural biofeedback mechanism that stimulates your pituitary and pineal glands.
Following your breath and using your breath as a "drishti" or focal point will help you relax.
The steps to meditate:
1- create a meditation space where you will not be disturbed. Bring in any objects, get comfortable, remove any clutter, light a candle...
2- Ensure your spine is erect: you may like to prop yourself up with pillows
3- become aware of your breath. Take in deep breaths up through your belly, ribcage and chest and then down your chest, ribcage and belly
4- Rest your tongue on the upper palette of your mouth
5- Find a hand position that is right for you. You may open your palms up to the heavens with your thumb and index finger touching and allow them to sit comfortably on your lamp
6- close your eyes
7- Galvanize your attention to the space between your eyebrows
Other forms of meditation:
- Meditation in motion a hallmark of Kripalu yoga: allowing your body to follow your breath as you engage in stage 3 yoga
- Connecting to your creativity through art, music, cooking, sewing.....
- Chanting by repeting mantras
- Vigorous exercise such as running
- other activity that slows down your brain waves and allows you to feel as one with the universe.
